Admissions committees read files, not lists. 招生官读的是档案,不是清单。
The question they're actually answering is: does this student hold together? A strategy that doesn't match the activities, activities that don't match the essays, essays that don't match what the teachers will say — any of these breaks the file. 招生委员会真正在问的,只有一个问题:这个孩子到底是谁?策略对不上活动,活动对不上文书,文书对不上老师要写的 —— 任何一处断裂,整份档案就散了。

Strategy 申请策略
The question isn't "how do we make this student stronger?" It's "what only this student could do?" 不是"怎么让这个孩子更强",而是"只有这个孩子能做成什么"。
Here is the profile we see most often — and the one that gets rejected from every Ivy League school every year:
Every line on that list is a real accomplishment. The problem is that admissions officers have read that exact file thousands of times. There is no through-line. There is no answer to the question who is this student? There is only a checklist executed competently. A checklist executed competently is not a candidacy — it is a candidacy's missing centerpiece.
Here is the adjacent failure mode: competing harder in an already-crowded field. Are you still pushing AMC, hoping to stand out among the tens of thousands of strong math students applying to MIT? Unless your child is going to qualify for MOP — the top ~50 math students in America — pure math competition performance will not, on its own, open MIT's door. It's not that the effort is wasted. It's that the lane is too crowded for effort alone to win.
Our strategy work is different. We borrow a principle from Peter Thiel: don't compete — be so uncontested that competition isn't the frame anymore. We begin with a diagnostic: transcript, testing, current activities, and a candid conversation about interests, constraints, and ambition. From this we produce three things:
- 01 A target-school list grounded in fit, not aspiration
- 02 An identity thesis — the one-sentence answer to "who is this student becoming?"
- 03 A twelve- to thirty-six-month plan built around the two or three things only this student is positioned to do
The plan is revised every quarter, and whenever something real changes what's possible — a research door opens, a competition result lands higher than expected, a publication gets picked up. Plans that don't change when reality changes aren't plans. They're decoration.
The goal is not to make your child the best version of the generic applicant. The goal is to make them the only version of themselves — so clearly in their own lane that "excellent in the usual metrics" becomes a footnote, not the headline.

再漂亮的清单,也成不了一份真正的档案。因为它缺的,就是那个内核。
还有一种常见的错位:在本来就很挤的赛道上继续加码。您的孩子是不是还在死磕 AMC,盼着从上万名申请 MIT 的数学强手里脱颖而出?除非他能进 MOP —— 全美前 50 —— 否则单靠数学竞赛,MIT 是进不去的。
不是努力白费。是赛道太挤,单靠用力赢不下来。
我们的策略不一样。借 Peter Thiel 一句话:不要竞争 —— 做到没有人和你在同一条赛道上。
我们从一次诊断开始:成绩单、标化、现有活动,以及一次关于兴趣、现实情况与野心的坦诚对话。由此给出三样东西:
- 01 一份基于「合不合适」、而不是「向不向往」的选校名单
- 02 一条身份主线 —— 用一句话回答:这个孩子正在成为谁
- 03 一份 12 到 36 个月的规划,围绕「只有他才该做的那两三件事」展开
规划每季度修订一次。一旦出现真能改变申请走向的事 —— 科研机会打开、竞赛成绩超出预期、作品被刊登 —— 立刻调整。不随实际情况调整的规划,只是装饰。
我们的目标,不是把孩子打磨成「通用申请者的最佳版本」,而是让他成为他自己的那个唯一版本 —— 清清楚楚站在自己的赛道上。把「常规优秀」变成地基。真正的亮点,在上面。
Activities 活动规划
Activities aren't a checklist. They're the architecture of a candidacy. 活动不是清单。活动是一份申请的骨架。
Are you still starting another nonprofit to teach middle schoolers physics? Founding a club with three members? Organizing another bake sale for charity? The problem isn't that those activities are bad. The problem is that admissions officers have seen them three thousand times before — and nothing about them tells the committee who this student is.
Our students do different work. They help state lawmakers draft and pass actual legislation. They write books on overlooked histories that get picked up by real publishers. They conduct primary-source research on topics that no one else in their cohort is touching. They build national academic archives that get cited by working scholars in the field.
None of this is "impressive in the abstract." All of it is inevitable for the specific student doing it — each activity the natural extension of a thesis we've built together. A student whose identity thesis is built around applied mathematics shouldn't be running a mental-health podcast. A student whose thesis is built around public policy shouldn't be doing a chemistry research internship. Fit is the signal. Breadth without fit is noise.
Execution is where most consultants fail and where we put most of our time. A lead consultant guides applications to selective summer programs, the founding of student-led initiatives, outreach to research mentors, and preparation for the inflection-point submissions — the competitions and publications that convert participation into distinction.
您的孩子是不是还在办一个「教初中生物理」的公益项目?拉了一个只有三个人的社团?再组织一场为慈善募款的烘焙义卖?这些活动本身不差 —— 问题是,招生官已经看过三千遍。从里面,读不出这个孩子到底是谁。
我们的学生做的是另一类事。
协助州议员起草并推动正式立法。写出被真正出版社选中的书,讲很少人讲过的那段历史。做同龄人没人做过的一手资料研究。搭起被一线学者引用的全国性学术档案。
抽象地听,不一定惊艳。对具体做这件事的孩子,每一件都非他不可 —— 因为每一件,都长在他自己的主线上。
主线是应用数学的孩子,就不该去主持心理健康播客。主线是公共政策的孩子,就不该去做化学科研暑研。合适,才算数。不合适的堆砌,只是噪音。
执行,是大多数顾问做砸的地方。也是我们花最多时间的地方。主导顾问一路陪到底:申请竞争激烈的暑期项目,协助创立学生主导的倡议,联系科研导师,准备关键节点的提交 —— 那些把「参加过」变成「做成过」的竞赛与发表。
Essays 文书打磨
Memorable. Not safe. 值得被记住。而不是一篇安全的文书。
The Eagle Scout story. The athletic injury that taught resilience. The immigrant grandparent who taught the value of hard work. These essays aren't badly written — they're just essays the admissions officer has already read, and they're going to read three hundred more like them this week.
Our students write about a thrifted t-shirt that carries three generations of migration. They trace a grandfather's life through a sequence of verses in the language he lost. They answer Caltech's collaboration prompt by writing about the specific argument that broke a friendship and then rebuilt it into something more honest. The angle only they could write — and then they rewrite it five or six times until it's undeniable.
Essay work is the slowest part of our practice. It starts the summer before senior year and does not end until submission. Every finished essay passes through a studio round-table: at least five consultants reading from different perspectives. We are brutal on each other's work, which means we are brutal on the student's. We would rather send a draft back for another round than send in prose we don't believe.

那种「只有他能写」的角度。找到之后,再改五六稿 —— 直到每一个字都站得住。
文书是我们工作里最慢的一环。从 12 年级开学前的那个暑假开始,一直做到递交那天。每一篇定稿都要过一次工作室的圆桌 —— 至少五位顾问,各自角度审读。我们对彼此的稿子毫不留情。对学生的稿子,也一样。
与其交出我们自己都不信的文字,不如让它回到桌上,再来一轮。
Recommendations & Interviews 推荐信与面试
The best letters aren't the ones you hope for. They're the ones you prepare for. 最好的推荐信,不是"指望来的",而是"准备出来的"。
Most students treat teacher recommendations as a black box — ask, hope, submit. That's how you get letters that say "hardworking and respectful." Competent. Forgettable.
We recently walked this road ourselves, and we know exactly how the best letters get written. We help students select the two or three teachers best positioned to speak to who they're becoming, and we help them prepare the briefing materials those teachers can draw from — including the "about me" forms that most teachers hand out before writing. Not a script. A through-line: the specific moments, projects, and intellectual turns that give the teacher concrete material to work from. What the teacher already knows gets written down in a way that actually carries.
For interviews, we run at least four mock sessions with different consultants, video-reviewed and critiqued, before a student sits for a real alumni interview. By the time they walk in, the hardest question they will be asked has already been asked of them — by us, on camera, without warning.
大多数学生把老师推荐信当一个黑盒子 —— 开口问、暗自期盼、按时提交。拿回来的信,多半写的是「勤奋、有礼貌」—— 合格,但会被忘掉。

我们帮学生挑两到三位最能写出「他正在成为谁」的老师。帮他准备老师动笔时可以用的背景材料 —— 包括大多数老师在写信前发给学生的那份「about me」表。
我们给的不是脚本,是一条主线。那些具体的瞬间、项目、想法上的转弯 —— 让老师手里有可以落笔的素材。让老师本就知道的事,以真正有分量的方式被写下来。
面试这一块。每位学生在真正的校友面试之前,至少过四轮模拟面试。不同顾问来问,全程录像,一条条过。
到那一刻,他能碰到的最难的问题,我们这里都问过了 —— 对着摄像头,毫无预警。

We never write an essay with AI. The voice on the page has to be the student's — because a reader can tell, and because the student will have to live inside it for four years. AI helps them think; it does not speak for them. 我们从不用 AI 代写文书。纸上的声音,必须是学生自己的。因为招生官听得出来。也因为这个声音,他要在大学里用整整四年。
